Police use OnStar to shut down car thieves in short chase, ending at the Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee. USA

Seven people are in custody after a police chase that ended near Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee when police disabled the car using vehicle’s OnStar system to ensure both the suspects and officers safety.

Greenfield police disabled the car and the chase ended only four blocks away — near Edgerton and Howell Avenues.

“We were on the phone with Onstar anticipating the vehicle would try to elude us,” said Sergeant Robert Austin. As soon as it took off, we asked Onstar to disable the vehicle remotely.”

“I think they were quite surprised the vehicle stopped responding to them,” Austin added.

The suspects involved were four juveniles and three adults.

The vehicle was one of several stolen recently from a Hertz Rent-A-Car lot.
